Well now – what have I learned so far (on this current trip to Japan). O.K. In no particular order; daytime TV sucks all over the world (although I would offer praise for Children’s programs here – they’re mostly of the Johny Morris / Vision On school of production which will be familiar to those of you of a certain age). Secondly, as my good friend Stewart McQueen is fond of reminding me – “everywhere you go, the kids want to rock”. And thirdly, nowhere in Japan do they rock harder or more righteously than Fukuoka.
The promoter of tonight’s show told me that, since the 1980′s, most visiting bands don’t include this city on their itinerary – they’re missing a big treat. The faithful gathered at ‘The Rooms’ tonight cheered us on to the stage, sang along and clapped from start to finnish. I am genuinely lost for words to describe their warmth & enthusiasm – but it feels very, very good. I love this place. If you’re in Tokyo this Sunday evening, why not come down to the show at ‘Fever’ in Hanegi? It’s our last of the tour… I can’t wait to come back.
